Seoul-based 3D-FAB, operated by the 3D Printing Research Association under the Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency, has opened applications for its 2026 crowdfunding support program. The initiative targets startups and SMEs that have already launched or are about to launch a product incorporating 3D printing technology. Applications close on May 15, 2026, with three companies to be selected through document and presentation evaluation. Each selected firm will receive up to KRW 5 million (approximately $3,700 USD) in mentoring, consulting, digital content production, and crowdfunding listing support. Since 2022, the program has helped 10 companies successfully commercialize and enter the market.
This program operates at the intersection of two recurring industry patterns: the persistent funding gap between prototype and first production run, and the growing role of government-backed innovation hubs in de-risking early-stage AM ventures. 3D-FAB functions as a specialized fabrication center offering end-to-end support from design and 3D printing to post-processing, targeting pre-entrepreneurs, startups, and SMEs. The crowdfunding component is particularly notable — it addresses a structural weakness in the AM startup ecosystem where hardware-heavy business models often struggle to attract traditional venture capital before demonstrating market traction. The program is process-agnostic and vertical-agnostic, meaning it can support anything from polymer material extrusion to metal binder jetting, across consumer products, medical devices, or industrial tooling.
For early-stage AM startups in South Korea, this is a practical, low-friction entry point to test market demand without diluting equity. The KRW 5 million cap is modest, but the bundled consulting and crowdfunding listing support likely provides more value than the cash alone. Companies should prepare a clear prototype-to-production narrative and evidence of customer interest, as the selection process will favor those closest to market readiness.
