Beehive Industries is scaling production of its Frenzy 8 jet engine with a $50 million investment in 30 EOS M4 ONYX metal additive manufacturing systems. The US-based propulsion manufacturer will deploy the machines across its Colorado and Tennessee facilities over the next 12 months, bringing its total EOS fleet to 50 units. The M4 ONYX platform, equipped with six lasers and advanced in-situ monitoring and powder filtration, is configured for aerospace-grade production environments. Beehive COO Darius Ehteshami framed the expansion as a commitment to scalable, American-made propulsion for defense programs.

This investment reflects a broader defense-driven acceleration in metal LPBF adoption, where the priority has shifted from demonstration parts to repeatable, high-volume production of flight-critical components. Beehive’s Frenzy 8 engine, designed for swarm-class drones and unmanned aerial systems, sits at the intersection of two powerful demand vectors: the US military’s push for attritable platforms and the need for domestic supply chains insulated from foreign laser and powder dependencies. The move also validates the EOS M4 ONYX as a production-grade platform capable of competing with Chinese LPBF systems on throughput, while maintaining the qualification traceability required by defense primes. Beehive’s fleet expansion signals that the value capture in defense AM is moving from machine sales to service-level production contracts.
