Konica Minolta has launched the JETvarnish 3D Web 400, a roll-to-roll digital embellishment press developed in collaboration with MGI Digital Technology. The system enables single-pass spot UV varnishing and hot foil stamping at speeds up to 42 m/min on substrates ranging from 200 mm to 350 mm in width. Configurable in six modular variations, the press integrates an AI-controlled automatic inspection system and MGI Connect software for predictive maintenance and cost calculation. Toshi Uemura, head of industrial print business at Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe, confirmed the solution is designed to support label converters using offset, flexo, toner, or inkjet printing processes.

This release addresses the growing demand for short-run, high-value label finishing in a market increasingly focused on variable data and rapid time-to-market. By digitizing the embellishment workflow, Konica Minolta competes directly with traditional analog finishing equipment that often requires expensive tooling and lengthy setup times. The modularity of the 3D Web 400 allows converters to scale their capabilities from basic spot UV to complex foil applications, positioning the hardware as a flexible alternative to legacy systems. As label converters face pressure to reduce waste and improve sustainability, this digital-first approach provides a measurable path to optimizing material usage and production efficiency.

For converters, the value of this system lies in its ability to consolidate multiple finishing steps into a single pass, directly reducing labor costs and material scrap. Potential buyers should evaluate the specific configuration of the print engines and die-cutting units against their current throughput requirements to ensure the investment aligns with their specific label production volume. The success of this platform will depend on how effectively the MGI Connect software integrates with existing MIS and workflow environments in high-mix, low-volume production settings.
