Leishi has launched the LAM 150V, a compact laser powder-fed directed energy deposition (DED) system for university and research-institute materials labs. Announced in July 2026 by Shandong-based Leishi Intelligent Manufacturing, the machine prioritizes multi-material gradient builds and high-throughput alloy coupon fabrication over shop-floor production. Standard setup uses four independent powder hoppers (optional two- or six-hopper modules) so steels, nickel superalloys, copper, and blended streams can form graded interfaces and multiphase trial alloys. Build volume is 150 x 150 x 150 mm with X/Y/Z repeatability of ±0.015 mm; claimed as-printed finish is Ra 10–20 μm via beam shaping, refined powder delivery, and closed-loop melt-pool monitoring.
Lab DED has long traded flexibility for roughness and weak composition control, while powder-bed systems deliver finer features but struggle with continuous gradients and rapid multi-alloy screening. Leishi positions LAM 150V as a materials-discovery tool: PC software stores up to 1,000 recipes for powder ratios, laser power, and shield-gas flow, imports Excel batch files, and auto-cycles more than 100 composition variants with mid-run top-up and live feed-rate changes. The sealed inert chamber is about 0.4 m³, targets oxygen and moisture below 50 ppm, purges in 0.5 hours, and fits a 1300 x 900 x 2250 mm footprint for single-person lab moves without facility rebuilds.
For buyers, the test is whether multi-hopper mixing, melt-pool telemetry, and recipe libraries yield composition-controlled coupons that survive metallography and property screens without powder-bed lock-in. Leishi, a national specialized "Little Giant" founded in 2017 under Dr. Hou Shuai (Loughborough PhD; former UK National Centre for Additive Manufacturing researcher), builds equipment in Jinan and runs service centers in Jinan and Xi'an.
