Snapmaker, the Shenzhen-based consumer 3D printing company, has closed a RMB 1 billion (approximately USD 140 million) Series C funding round led by Cathay Capital, with participation from TAL Education Group's strategic investment arm and follow-on investments from existing backers Meituan, Meituan Longzhu, Hillhouse Capital, and Shunwei Capital. The company's flagship U1 printer, which uses a four-independent-toolhead design with SnapSwap quick-change system, achieved 5x faster print speeds and roughly 80% less material waste compared to conventional single-extruder desktop machines. Snapmaker reported over 100,000 unit deliveries of the U1, following a record-breaking USD 20.6 million Kickstarter campaign that attracted more than 20,000 backers globally.

This round, the largest single consumer hardware financing since early 2025, underscores a structural shift in the desktop FDM/FFF segment: the transition from monochrome, single-material printing to multi-color, multi-material capability. Snapmaker's U1 directly addresses the core bottleneck that has kept consumer 3D printing confined to engineers and hobbyists - the inability to produce finished goods with aesthetic and functional complexity. By delivering print quality that approaches consumer-grade finished products, Snapmaker is competing with Bambu Lab's X-series and Creality's K-series on speed and material versatility, while differentiating through its toolhead architecture and ecosystem play. The company's next phase focuses on building a systemic ecosystem - content, software, and materials - to drive repeat usage beyond initial purchase.

For the consumer FDM/FFF market, the practical question is whether Snapmaker can sustain the production ramp and quality consistency that 100,000-unit delivery implies, while expanding its material and software ecosystem to match Bambu Lab's integrated workflow. The funding provides ample runway for R&D and global distribution, but the competitive field is tightening rapidly as Chinese OEMs race to match multi-color capability at lower price points. Buyers should evaluate U1's print quality and reliability against Bambu Lab's X1C and Creality's K1 Max before committing to a platform.
