Additive Assurance, an Australian metal additive manufacturing quality assurance developer, has signed a distribution agreement with NTT DATA XAM Technologies Corp. (XAM) to bring its AMiRIS real-time process monitoring platform to Japan. XAM will handle product sales, installation support, and technical maintenance, and will integrate AMiRIS with EOS and AMCM laser powder bed fusion systems already in the Japanese market. XAM has distributed EOS machines in Japan since 1993, giving it an established base of LPBF users to approach. CEO Marten Jurg said the partnership will help Japanese customers move toward stable, high-quality mass production.

The deal extends AMiRIS beyond the Nikon SLM Solutions partnership Additive Assurance's Chief Commercial Officer David Menzies discussed on this week's Additive Insight podcast, reinforcing a hardware-agnostic distribution model that attaches in-situ monitoring to whichever LPBF machines a customer already owns rather than requiring OEM bundling. Menzies framed the company's core problem as trust: metal LPBF has moved past the early prototyping-demonstration phase and now needs monitoring that lets manufacturers verify build quality in real time instead of relying solely on post-build inspection. Japan is a logical entry point given XAM's three-decade EOS distribution history and the country's dense base of precision manufacturers in automotive, electronics, and medical supply chains that require documented process consistency before qualifying a part.

Execution will hinge on how many of XAM's existing EOS and AMCM customers actually adopt AMiRIS as a paid add-on, since the announcement discloses no pricing, unit targets, or timeline. For manufacturers pursuing serial LPBF production, in-situ monitoring functions as a qualification accelerant, giving quality teams build-level data to support customer and regulatory documentation faster than periodic sampling alone. The next signal to watch is whether Additive Assurance extends distribution coverage to other LPBF platforms operating in Japan beyond the EOS and AMCM install base.
