Additive Marking GmbH, a German software company, closed a new financing round with an undisclosed amount. New investors GS1 Germany Accelerator, operating as Butterfly & Elephant, and TCP Beteiligungs-GmbH, owned by Bette CEO Thilo Pahl, joined returning backers Archimedes New Ventures, HAVER Business Angels, and the company's founders. Additive Marking's patented technology embeds machine-readable codes, QR, DataMatrix, and Direct-Part-Marking, directly into components during the 3D printing process, linking each physical part to a digital dataset from the moment of manufacture. The platform also covers laser-marked and labeled parts, applies GS1-compliant code management, and feeds ERP systems in real time for quality assurance and intralogistics.
The capital extends Additive Marking's PASS-X platform, which helps manufacturers build digital product passports for the EU's Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation and Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, with setup measured in days rather than the months typical of legacy integration projects. For industrial AM specifically, embedding identity data at the point of printing addresses a traceability gap that widens as parts move from prototyping into qualified, repeat production, where documentation continuity across the supply chain determines whether a component is accepted into a regulated program. GS1 Germany's involvement reflects institutional interest in standardizing part-level identification across manufacturing processes rather than leaving it to bespoke, process-specific labeling schemes.
As ESPR and PPWR compliance deadlines approach, vendors that compress digital-passport integration timelines are positioned to capture compliance-driven software spend that sits apart from AM equipment and materials budgets.
