Milan-based Caracol has partnered with CNC Robotics, a KUKA Platinum System Integrator headquartered in Liverpool, to assemble, integrate, and service its Heron AM composite and Vipra AM metal large-format additive manufacturing (LFAM) systems in the UK. The agreement also includes Caracol's existing UK reseller AM Futures, creating a local support ecosystem that debuted at the MACH event. Francesco De Stefano, CEO and Co-founder of Caracol, and Jason Barker, Founder and CTO of CNC Robotics, both emphasized the strategic importance of localized production and reshoring for British industrial manufacturers across aerospace, marine, automotive, and composites sectors. The partnership follows Caracol's $40 million Series B round in Q4 2025, which was earmarked for international consolidation and expansion.
This partnership addresses a persistent gap in the LFAM segment: the lack of localized technical integration and after-sales support outside the vendor's home region. Caracol competes with other robotic AM system providers such as CEAD, MX3D, and Thermwood, but the key differentiator here is the combination of a certified KUKA integrator with deep CNC/milling expertise and an existing reseller network. The arrangement reduces lead times for installation and service, lowers logistical costs, and builds customer confidence in a market where switching costs are high due to the capital-intensive nature of LFAM systems. This is a classic example of the localization pattern seen in industrial AM, where regional support infrastructure becomes a competitive moat against lower-cost entrants. The UK's industrial base, particularly in aerospace and marine, has been actively seeking reshoring solutions, and this partnership positions Caracol to capture demand that might otherwise go to domestic or Asian alternatives.
For UK manufacturers evaluating LFAM, the practical takeaway is that Caracol now offers a credible local support chain that reduces the risk of adopting robotic AM for large composite or metal parts. The partnership's success will depend on CNC Robotics' ability to maintain service quality across multiple customer sites and on Caracol's capacity to supply systems consistently. Buyers should verify that the combined team can handle the specific qualification requirements of their target applications, particularly in aerospace where certification documentation is critical. This is a measured step forward for LFAM adoption in the UK, not a market inflection point.
