CMU researchers have launched an agentic AI workflow to automate alloy printability screening for laser powder bed fusion. The system uses LLMs to orchestrate Thermo-Calc property data and physics-based melt pool models through Model Context Protocol. In evaluations of 10 novel compositions and standards like IN718, the tool successfully generated lack of fusion process maps via natural language prompts.
