Jiangsu Runice 3D Technology (锐力斯), a Chinese supplier of FDM 3D printing core components, has closed a nearly 100 million yuan (~$13.8 million) funding round. The round was led by Tovin Capital, with participation from Haojun Investment, Wuzhou Jinkong, and Shihu Fund. Founder and CEO Wu Jin said the capital will be directed toward R&D in materials, extrusion, motion control, and smart manufacturing, as well as expanding global brand presence and production capacity. Runice, founded in 2013, operates R&D in Suzhou and manufacturing in Dongguan, and sells under the Phaetus and FusRock brands, supplying hot ends, extruders, and motion systems to desktop and industrial FDM printer manufacturers worldwide.
This funding underscores the structural shift in polymer AM from single-color to multi-head, multi-material, multi-functional systems, a trend that multiplies demand for precision hot ends and extruders by 4x–8x per printer, as noted by the lead investor. Runice occupies a critical upstream position in the FDM value chain: it provides the picks and shovels for the fast-growing consumer and prosumer printer market, including brands that rely on qualified third-party components. The company’s long history, IP portfolio of nearly 100 patents, and global distribution across 90+ countries make it a representative example of the Chinese localization arc, where domestic suppliers move from matching specs to integrating materials, manufacturing, and customer references into a competitive platform. The funding also aligns with the broader industry narrative of supply chain deepening in China’s AM ecosystem.
The round values Runice as a play on volume growth in FDM componentry rather than printer sales. Execution risk centers on scaling quality while keeping costs competitive against other Chinese component makers and in-house production by large OEMs. For buyers and integrators, the signal is that the upstream FDM component market is attracting capital and will likely see faster innovation in multi-material capabilities and reliability. Runice must now convert this capital into consistent manufacturing throughput and expanded product lines to maintain its position as the go-to supplier for the next generation of multi-head FDM systems.
