ExOne has launched the S-Print Pro, a compact sand binder jetting 3D printer designed for small and mid-sized foundries, pattern makers, and print service providers. The system occupies under 12 square meters of floor space, offers a build volume of 1200 x 750 x 500 mm, and can process a full job box within one shift. Key features include CoreBoost printhead technology at 400 dpi resolution, StepX in-situ surface smoothing to reduce stair-stepping, and user-replaceable printhead modules for simplified maintenance. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026, starting with beta partners and early reservation slots. ExOne CEO Eric Bader stated the machine was developed in response to customer demand for affordable, production-grade sand printing, following the merger of ExOne and voxeljet.

This launch addresses a persistent gap in the sand casting market: industrial binder jetting has historically been built for large-scale operations, while the majority of global foundries employ fewer than 100 workers and operate on tighter budgets. By shrinking the footprint and cost profile of its S-Max platform, ExOne is targeting the long tail of regional supply chains, low-volume casting, and spare-part production. The move fits a recurring pattern in AM where established process technology is repackaged for smaller economic units — similar to how desktop metal PBF-LB systems opened production capacity for job shops. For binder jetting in particular, the sand segment has seen less competitive pressure than metal binder jetting, making this a relatively protected adjacency where ExOne and voxeljet hold strong IP and application knowledge. The key question is whether the S-Print Pro can deliver the same reliability and material consistency as the S-Max line at a price point that makes sense for shops accustomed to traditional pattern-making methods.

For small foundries evaluating this system, the practical test will be total cost of ownership per casting, not just machine price. ExOne must demonstrate that the S-Print Pro can integrate into existing sand handling and pouring workflows without requiring dedicated operators or extensive retooling. The company's post-merger engineering integration gives it a credible foundation, but execution on service support and consumables pricing will determine whether this becomes a volume platform or a niche product. Buyers should request reference installations and compare per-part costs against conventional pattern tooling for their typical batch sizes before committing.
