Ipsen USA is expanding the Titan vacuum furnace assembly line at its Vacuum Technology Excellence Center in Cherry Valley, Illinois, adding approximately 650 m² of production space by converting its former showroom into a dedicated assembly bay. The expansion will increase annual production capacity from 36 to 60 Titan furnaces, a more than 60% lift. The move follows a record month in May 2026, when Ipsen received orders for 21 Titan furnaces, driven by investment in the aerospace and energy sectors. Geoffrey Somary, CEO of Ipsen, stated the company is investing today to ensure it can support customer demand tomorrow, with the first orders scheduled to enter the new area in July 2026.

This expansion signals a concrete demand signal for vacuum heat-treatment infrastructure, a critical but often invisible enabler in the metal AM value chain. While much industry attention focuses on printer sales, the post-processing and thermal treatment ecosystem-vacuum furnaces for stress relief, solution annealing, and HIP-adjacent cycles-is where production-grade AM parts become qualification-ready. Ipsen’s Titan line, introduced in 2009 with over 450 units installed globally, is a standardized, cost-effective platform that reduces lead times for manufacturers. The aerospace and energy verticals, both heavy users of nickel superalloys and titanium alloys that require precise thermal cycles, are driving this capacity investment. The expansion reflects a broader pattern: as metal AM moves from demo cells to repeatable factories, the supporting thermal infrastructure must scale in parallel, and suppliers like Ipsen are capturing that pull-through demand.

For AM service bureaus and OEMs scaling production, this expansion means shorter lead times for furnace procurement and a more predictable thermal processing supply chain. The practical takeaway is that post-processing capacity constraints are becoming a bottleneck for production-scale AM, and furnace availability is now a competitive factor. Ipsen must execute the build-out without disrupting existing orders, and buyers should factor furnace lead times into their production planning cycles. This is a routine capacity expansion, not a technology breakthrough, but it reflects a healthy, maturing industrial ecosystem where the supporting cast is scaling alongside the headline printer makers.
