Phase3D has closed an oversubscribed $2.9 million funding round led by Quest Venture Partners, with participation from Trinity Capital, Kinisis Ventures, Leroy Street Capital Partners, and Asimov Ventures. The Chicago-based company will use the capital to scale manufacturing of its Fringe Inspection product, expand software and data science capabilities, and accelerate deployments across its enterprise and government customer base, which includes NASA, the U.S. Air Force, and the U.S. Navy. Ray Farrell of Carter DeLuca has joined the board to help build IP infrastructure supporting commercial scale.

This funding round arrives as metal LPBF moves beyond the demo-cell phase into production environments where in-process quality assurance is no longer optional but a prerequisite for qualification. Phase3D's structured-light heightmap sensor addresses a persistent gap in the metal AM value chain: the ability to detect layer-level anomalies in real time, rather than relying on post-build CT scanning or destructive testing. The company's stated shift from a high-mix custom build model to standardized product manufacturing mirrors the broader industry transition from bespoke service-bureau work to repeatable factory operations.
