Reichenbacher Hamuel GmbH has deployed MKS Instruments’ Ophir BeamPeek system across research and development, commissioning, quality assurance, and maintenance of its industrial LPBF equipment. The German special-machine builder produces bespoke, large-format LPBF systems that combine the wider manufacturing chain and may use multiple laser sources. BeamPeek measures beam diameter, position, shape, power and power density, while its software calculates beam caustics relative to the AM chamber build plane. Reichenbacher participated as a beta tester and provided optimization feedback during the product’s development.

For custom multi-laser LPBF platforms, beam measurement is a production-control requirement rather than a peripheral lab task: laser and optics settings must be repeatedly checked as machine configurations, materials and customer requirements vary. Reichenbacher selected a compact system that operates without water or air cooling, an important constraint when working around fine metal powders in space-limited build chambers. The device uses removable cooling inserts and delivers beam-profile, focus, power and caustic results within seconds, reducing interruption during setup and service work.

The practical value lies in carrying the same measurement method from system development into field maintenance, helping Reichenbacher document and restore laser conditions across the installed lifecycle of open-material LPBF machines.
