Zhongti Xincai, the exclusive licensed distributor of the Scalmalloy family of additive manufacturing aluminum alloys in China, has launched Scalmalloy EX, a variant engineered for high thermal and electrical conductivity. The new powder reaches a thermal conductivity of 218 W/(m·K), a substantial jump over standard Scalmalloy grades and within range of unalloyed aluminum. The company is positioning Scalmalloy EX for laser powder bed fusion parts across aerospace, 3C consumer electronics, robotics, automotive, and low-altitude economy applications such as drones and eVTOL platforms.

Standard Scalmalloy, originally developed by APWorks as a scandium-strengthened Al-Mg alloy, built its reputation on a strength-to-weight ratio close to titanium rather than thermal performance, so a purpose-built high-conductivity grade addresses a different design problem: heat sinks, vapor chambers, and thermal-management structures that still need the complex, weight-optimized geometries only LPBF can produce. Consumer electronics has already normalized internal AM heat-dissipation parts as production reality, and licensed domestic access to Scalmalloy chemistry gives Chinese OEMs an alternative to importing the alloy or defaulting to generic AlSi10Mg for conductivity-critical brackets and enclosures. Robotics and low-altitude economy platforms share the same underlying need: compact, high-power-density electronics requiring efficient passive cooling within tight mass budgets.
