
Zhongti New Materials becomes exclusive China agent for Airbus-linked Scalmalloy EX high-conductivity 3D-printed aluminum alloy

Zhongti New Materials, the sole licensed China distributor for the Scalmalloy aluminum alloy series, has added Scalmalloy EX to its powder lineup, a scandium-aluminum alloy developed by APWORKS, the Airbus subsidiary that created the original Scalmalloy chemistry. The new grade raises thermal conductivity to 218 W/(m*K), roughly double the 116 W/(m*K) of standard Scalmalloy RP, while holding electrical conductivity at 30 MS/m and elongation at 15 percent. It is qualified for laser powder bed fusion and targets two part families: RF hardware such as antennas, waveguides and filters, and thermal management components such as liquid cooling plates and heat exchangers. Zhongti positions the grade as complementary to its existing lineup rather than a replacement, filling a conductivity niche alongside general-purpose AlSi10Mg and AlSi7Mg and its higher-strength CNPC-series powders.
The addition extends a materials specialization pattern already visible in Zhongti's catalog: AlSi10Mg and AlSi7Mg for general complex geometries, CNPC-Al0436 for ultra-high-strength load-bearing parts, CNPC-M1 for a strength-ductility balance, CNPC-Al34 for lightweight ductile structures, and now Scalmalloy EX for conductivity-driven designs. That segmentation targets aerospace, robotics, consumer electronics, EV and low-altitude-economy buyers in China, where parts increasingly need thermal or electrical performance combined with the internal-channel and thin-wall freedom LPBF allows. Zhongti holds IATF 16949 and SCS 100-percent recycled-content certification, credentials that matter for formal material qualification rather than one-off prototyping. This is exclusive Chinese distribution of Western, Airbus-linked alloy IP rather than domestic substitution, a reminder that qualified Western material chemistries still carry weight in conductivity- and RF-critical designs even as China builds independent powder capacity.
Zhongti's supply position rests on its proprietary AMP atomization process, over 80 percent automated, yielding 60 percent recovery in the 20 to 63 micron LPBF band with sphericity above 92 percent and oxygen content under 350 ppm. A 1,500 ton-per-year LPBF aluminum powder line came online in 2025, a new facility phase adding 8,000 tons of annual high-end metal powder capacity is due by the end of 2026, and a California site is planned for 2027. Because Scalmalloy-family alloys are process-sensitive, scandium-modified chemistries rather than drop-in substitutes, buyers will need Zhongti's parameter-tuning and after-sales support to reach usable results on LPBF systems.
