Cross Industry Dynamics built a full-scale hypercar prototype for Lil Zoomers in two weeks, starting from a concept sketch and using Caracol's Heron 300 HV robotic large-format additive manufacturing system instead of tooling or CNC milling. The body and supporting components were printed in glass-fiber-reinforced PETG through a 5mm nozzle, requiring 24 hours of continuous print time. The finished model measures 1,643 x 2,895 x 1,402mm and weighs 85kg, and was built for display at an auto show in Las Vegas. The remaining project time went to assembly, sanding, bonding, coating and painting to prepare the piece for exhibition.
The case is a straightforward illustration of where robotic LFAM earns its keep: one-off show cars, concept vehicles and low-volume runs where mold and tooling lead time would blow past a fixed event date. Skipping negative molds compresses the CAD-to-rough-part phase, but it does not remove the design and finishing labor, and the large nozzle diameter leaves visible layer lines that still require substantial post-processing before the part is presentation-ready. Dimensional accuracy, interlayer bonding and robot toolpath planning remain governing constraints, which is why the process has not displaced conventional processes for production body panels.
For service bureaus courting automotive clients, the practical takeaway is that LFAM wins on schedule compression for singular pieces, not on eliminating finishing cost.
