
Instalimb joins Tokyo's fourth SusHi Tech Global cohort to fund overseas franchise growth for AI/3D-printed prosthetics

Instalimb, a Tokyo-founded deep-tech startup building AI and 3D-printed prosthetic and orthotic devices, has been selected for the fourth cohort of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government's SusHi Tech Global startup support program, one of 17 companies added this round to bring the program's cumulative roster to 94. Since starting operations in the Philippines in 2018 and later expanding into India, the company has delivered more than 9,000 3D printed prosthetic legs, with its manufacturing solution now deployed at over 10 organizations, including public institutions. Instalimb says the selection will fund franchise expansion into markets beyond its current Philippine and Indian operations and support a remote-delivery model built on smartphone-based limb scanning.
The company describes itself, by its own account, as the first to move AI-assisted 3D printed prosthetics from prototype into a repeatable mass-customization production system, targeting the global shortage of certified prosthetists. Instalimb claims device costs below one-tenth of conventional prosthetics, comparable reductions in setup lead time, and prosthetist output gains greater than 10x through its 3D-CAD design workflow and dedicated print hardware. A government accelerator selection carries less market signal than a funding round, but it functions as a distribution channel: SusHi Tech Global pairs capital with hands-on support explicitly aimed at helping portfolio companies scale into new geographies, which the release frames as the binding constraint on Instalimb's growth.
The smartphone-scanning delivery model is the more consequential detail if it holds outside Instalimb's existing service network, since it would decouple prosthetic fitting from the clinic-based digitization infrastructure many low-resource markets currently lack.
