Youngstown, Ohio-based JuggerBot 3D has built the H6-106, a large-format hybrid additive system that combines pellet-fed thermoplastic extrusion with a two-component thermoset resin delivery system inside a single enclosed, heated build chamber. Built on JuggerBot's Tradesman platform, the machine came out of Project ACME (Advanced Composite Material Extrusion), an America Makes initiative funded by a $4 million award JuggerBot received in 2024 from the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering, managed through the Air Force Research Laboratory. JuggerBot plans to use the H6-106 to produce aerospace tooling and validate repeatable production performance, drawing on prior collaborations with Oak Ridge National Laboratory on pellet-fed printing and process automation, and with Mississippi State University's Advanced Composite Institute.

Thermosets cure permanently rather than melting and reflowing, giving parts more heat resistance and dimensional stability under repeated load than typical large-format thermoplastics, but they have been hard to deposit reliably at pellet-extrusion scale. Rather than building a new machine from scratch, JuggerBot paired that chemistry with an established large-format platform, aiming squarely at aerospace tooling that must survive repeated autoclave or oven cycles without softening. The AFRL funding reflects a broader defense push to expand the range of qualified large-format AM materials rather than chase printer size or speed alone, and whether the H6-106 moves beyond demonstration will depend on tooling qualification data, not on the resin chemistry itself.
