
Sciperio wins US patent for high-viscosity dispensing pump underpinning nScrypt QuantiHelix platform

Sciperio, the R&D arm of nScrypt, has been issued US Patent No. 12,654,396 B2 for a pump designed to dispense materials with viscosities above 1 million centipoise in additive manufacturing systems. The patent, titled "Pump for Additive Manufacturing," covers a servo-controlled progressive cavity pump paired with a servo-motor-driven valve that adjusts flow in real time, and it underpins nScrypt's QuantiHelix dispensing platform already built into the company's production systems. Five inventors are credited, including Sciperio and nScrypt CEO Dr. Kenneth H. Church. The company positions the technology for direct write manufacturing of conductive inks, adhesives, epoxies, and biological materials, where conventional dispensing struggles with over- and under-deposition at path starts, ends, and complex geometries.
The filing extends a pattern nScrypt and Sciperio have followed for years: building point-of-need manufacturing and repair capability for the Department of Defense that does not rely on centralized supply chains, following a 2023 patent for a container-based modular mobile direct digital manufacturing system. Applications named include printed electronics, electronics packaging, antenna manufacturing, and microelectronics, positioning direct write AM as infrastructure for distributed defense production rather than a prototyping tool. Precision material dispensing is a narrow but persistent bottleneck in printed-electronics AM, and codifying flow control into an issued patent gives Sciperio a documented technical basis to defend the QuantiHelix platform as competitors pursue similar high-viscosity dispensing approaches.
