Tokyo Ink will begin selling Lumine-C 3DP Filament (PSFC-250) on August 3, 2026, through its corporate e-shop, priced at 25,000 yen before tax for a 250g spool. The polystyrene-based filament is an improved version of the Lumine 3DP Filament the company launched in August 2025, addressing a slight cloudiness that appeared in the original material, particularly in thicker prints. By adjusting raw materials and manufacturing conditions, Tokyo Ink increased transparency while preserving the same printability and plastic scintillator performance, the property that makes the material emit faint light when struck by radiation such as beta particles. The filament runs on standard FFF printers at 190 to 210 degrees Celsius with an 80 to 90 degree bed, in a 1.65 to 1.75mm diameter.
Plastic scintillator filament is a narrow but functional niche within polymer material extrusion, aimed at research institutions and educators building radiation detector prototypes, evaluation parts, and teaching aids without tooling. Clarity matters directly to performance here: light generated inside a scintillating part must travel through the material to be measured, so haze in thicker sections degrades signal readability, which is exactly the defect this revision targets. Tokyo Ink is iterating within a year of the original release rather than introducing a new material line, suggesting steady enough demand from labs and schools to justify refining rather than replacing the product. The update keeps a specialty function, radiation visualization, accessible on desktop-class FFF hardware rather than restricting it to industrial photopolymer or purpose-built detector fabrication.
