Eaton Aerospace has opened a European Centre of Additive Manufacturing at its aerospace campus in Wimborne, UK, combining design, engineering, printing and validation under one roof. The facility is built around Eaton's largest metal additive manufacturing system to date, which the company says delivers up to twice the productivity of its previous platforms. Eaton plans to add titanium and electron beam processes based on customer demand, and is working toward AS9100 aerospace quality certification rather than starting with it in place. VP of engineering Tomasina Bailey and additive director Mike York framed the site as a step toward supporting high-reliability commercial and military programs at scale.

The move fits a broader pattern among established aerospace suppliers: building regional, qualified production capacity to shorten the gap between design and certified parts, rather than centralizing metal AM in a single home market. For Eaton, a $27.4 billion diversified supplier of hydraulic, fuel, oxygen, electrical and engine systems, this is a capability build-out inside an existing customer base, not a new market entry. The AS9100-in-progress status is the detail worth tracking: the facility is operational, but its ability to ship flight-certified titanium components at production volume still depends on completing that certification and validating the electron beam process.
