Modoo Solution, a South Korean CAD software provider led by CEO Chung Gu-jung, has officially released the Korean-language version of GstarCAD 2027 on June 15, 2026. The update introduces a new memory pool and optimized management mechanism to improve processing speed for complex drawings, with notable gains in regeneration, zoom/pan, selection, move, mirror copy, rotate, copy, undo/redo, explode, and delete commands. New features include dynamic block parametric constraints for precise control over geometry size and position, centerline and center mark tools for clearer engineering communication, enhanced batch printing with custom print order and page/set options, floating drawing windows for side-by-side document comparison, and a redesigned command line with adjustable width and height. The company is running a 1+1 promotion to encourage adoption among domestic users.
While GstarCAD is not an additive manufacturing tool per se, it occupies a critical position in the broader manufacturing software stack that supports AM workflows. In South Korea's industrial ecosystem, CAD interoperability and performance directly affect how design engineers prepare geometry for downstream simulation, DfAM optimization, and eventual AM production. Modoo Solution's focus on large-drawing performance, parametric constraints, and batch output aligns with the needs of engineering teams who handle complex tooling, jigs, and production parts — the same users who increasingly evaluate AM for serial production. The update also reflects the ongoing localization dynamic in the CAD/CAM market, where domestic alternatives to global platforms like AutoCAD must match or exceed baseline performance to retain users migrating from legacy systems.
For the AM industry, this is a minor but practical signal: as more Korean manufacturers adopt metal and polymer AM processes, the quality of their upstream CAD tools becomes a gating factor for design-for-AM adoption. Modoo Solution's ability to maintain feature parity with global CAD platforms while offering localized support and pricing will determine whether it becomes a default choice for AM-adjacent engineering teams in Korea. The real test is whether future GstarCAD releases integrate AM-specific design rules or lattice-generation capabilities, which would move it from a general-purpose drafting tool to a genuine DfAM enabler.
