Evaluate a CAD-to-print handoff with checks for dimensions, revisions, separate parts and a file reopened in the receiving application.
A useful CAD trial continues beyond the first model on screen. Before sending a design to an additive manufacturing workflow, check the geometry you need, the changes you can make and the file your receiving software will open.
Define the part and the next operation
Choose a representative enclosure, bracket or mounting part. Record its overall dimensions, required openings, interfaces and expected number of separate parts. Decide which receiving CAD application or print preparation tool will open the output.
CADlingo describes a browser workflow for generating editable CAD from text or a reference image, changing available parameters, revising a model through chat and exporting STEP or STL. Evaluate those steps with your own part and required edits. A feature described on a product page still needs a trial against your specification.
Change a dimension and inspect the result
Change a dimension that matters to your design. Inspect nearby openings and mounting features afterward. Record which relationships update as intended and which require another edit. If your work requires a constraint system or feature history, demonstrate that requirement with the same test part.
Use section views where they help expose internal openings or walls. Check a restored version against the baseline after an unwanted change. These are proposed evaluation steps, not a certification of a particular model.
Open the exported file downstream
Export the revised model and open it in the receiving application. Check scale, key dimensions, orientation and part separation. Attempt the editing or preparation step you expect to perform next.
Geometry handoff and process qualification are separate checks. A file that opens successfully does not establish material suitability, print parameters, support strategy or final-part performance. Review those requirements with the intended process and supplier.
| Check | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|
| Required dimensions | Baseline specification and inspected model |
| Revision behavior | Before-and-after geometry and available controls |
| Separate parts | Part count and interface inspection |
| Export handoff | File reopened in the receiving application |
| Process requirements | Supplier or process-specific review |
Keep the model and exported file supporting each decision. Use the same checks for each candidate tool so your choice follows the work it must perform.
