Technology & Products

Key Products

Vigoride Orbital Service Vehicle (Vigoride-5, -6, -7 missions active); Satellite buses and structural platforms; Hosted payload deployment services; Micro-propulsion and reaction wheels; 3D-printed titanium propellant tanks (Velo3D partnership); On-orbit inspection, servicing, refueling, and debris removal (roadmap)

Technological Advantage

The titanium tank demonstration represents a first-gate validation of 3D-printed pressure vessels in orbital service—part-consolidation, tailored wall thickness, and internal channel geometry are difficult to achieve via traditional weld/bolt assembly and reduce component count and lead time. However, the on-orbit proof of concept is not yet translatable to serial production claims without publication of alloy, process specifics, pressure rating, qualification standard, and multi-cycle thermal/load data. Momentus positions the capability as a route to higher unit volume and shorter build cycles for future smallsat tanks, but that production thesis remains provisional. The advantage is defensible only through design IP and the Velo3D partnership agreement; the titanium tank itself is not patented (as of public disclosure).

Differentiation

Value Proposition

Vigoride orbital service vehicle enables on-orbit repositioning, satellite deployment, payload transfer, and de-orbiting with water-fed microwave-electrothermal (MET) thrusters; partnership with Velo3D extends component manufacturing capability to rapid, consolidated metal 3D-printed pressure vessels and structural assemblies—reducing lead time and enabling design consolidation vs. traditional welded/bolted tanks.

How They Differentiate

Momentus differentiates via reusable Vigoride platform (lower per-mission cost), water-based MET propulsion (simpler logistics vs. propellant volatility), and emerging partnership with Velo3D for rapid metal-AM spacecraft components. Competitors (D-Orbit, Firefly) offer similar orbital transfer and hosted payload services but typically via single-use or legacy propulsion. Momentus's AM integration is nascent (one flight demonstration) and not yet a market differentiator vs. operational competitors; however, if serial titanium tanks prove reliable, lead-time advantage could become material.
