AMPulse tracks 6,067 additive manufacturing companies across 91 countries, of which 5,854 are currently operating. These are companies whose business is 3D printing itself (equipment, materials, software, services), not merely companies that use a printer. Counted by country, segment, founding year, and status; updated quarterly.

AM companies by country

The United States hosts the largest number of AM companies, with China second and Germany third. Aggregated by region the picture flips: Europe (2,527) edges out Asia (1,592) and North America (1,562), a reminder that the industry is far less US-centric than English-language coverage suggests. Company foundings by year

Foundings surged after 2012 and peaked in 2014, the years when key FDM and laser-sintering patents expired and desktop printing drew a wave of new entrants. The decline since is real but overstated at the right edge: newly founded companies typically take one to three years to surface publicly, so recent years will be revised upward.

What AM companies actually do

Services (printing bureaus, on-demand manufacturing) form the largest segment, ahead of hardware. Materials is the third pillar, roughly the combined size of software and applications. Explore segments and processes at the technology hub.
